So, there is a whole lot going on right now in Rangers camp, and I am going to try and hit it all for this Saturday morning. But since it is tough to bat .1000, I will probably miss something.
4 More Going to Round Rock
I don’t think that this will surprise anyone, But the Rangers announced Friday that they are sending 4 players to Round Rock to start the season. Outfielders Doug Deeds and Endy Chavez, catcher Kevin Cash and infielder Esteban German. The Rangers have 34 players left in camp, but 4 of those will start the season on the DL.
Borbon pulled in second inning
Julio Borbon was pulled out of the game last evening in the second inning before his 1st at bat for David Murphy. Murphy said he was not expecting to go into the game so early, and Borbon had no comment and referred all questions to his manager. Wash said he decided to use it as a teachable moment, what ever that means!! I expect to see Murphy starting in center on opening day but I still expect to see Borbon on the team.
Front Runners for Hunters Spot
I have been reading and researching and it looks like the guys in line to take Hunters spot in the rotation are as follows and in this order:
Alexi Ogando
Michael Kirkman
Dave Bush
These are all guys that I discussed in a previous post, I just wanted to put an order to them. We have a week to see what happens. It should be interesting.
Rhodes Battling Tendinitis
Arthur Rhodes came out of the game last night after having another bad outing and Wash said that he has been battling tendinitis in his left wrist. Wash said that is was not really important for him to finish a spring training game and he believes he will be ready for the season.
1. Not suprised the 4 are going to RR…feel bad for German b/c he probably could get a spot on someone’s 25 if he was with another team but doesn’t really matter here.
2. Borbon needs to get his shit together period.
3. Rather leave Ogando in the pen and roll with Tomko or Bush. Kirkman needs a little work and rather him be confident when he is called upon rather than just skidding in to the season. I think Tanner and Michael Kirkman are biggest keys to the season really pitching wise.
4. Rhodes has been really bad this spring and hopefully this explains it. I would put him in the same category as O’Day and Lowe being a bag of suck
I agree about Tomko or Bush. Since it is a part time gig, I would rather have someone who has been there done that while Tommy is on the mend. Rhodes problems can now be explained, I hope, by his injury. I am not sure how to explain O’Day and Lowe. A big heaping bag of suck sir.
Well we will know what the Rangers decision will be for starting 5 tomorrow….Bush has an opt out clause tomorrow.
SP: Wilson, Lewis, Harrison, Bush, Holland
RP: Feliz (CL), Ogando and Oliver (Set-up), O’Day Strop and Rhodes as 6, 7th inning guys, and Kirkman Tomko as long men if we go with a 8 man rotation.
Question does Lowe replace Kirkman? Lowe has stunk of shit so far this spring….Hurley get a shot at SP?
Do we go with a 7 or 8 man bullpen….that is one of the questions to answer when deciding the bench. Can Chris Davis make the team….can he be the third catcher? Treanor will not see time now that Torrealba and Napoli are on board….is he worth Chris Davis’ spot on the team.
Davis can play 1st/3rd, Young 1st/2nd/DH, Moreland 1st/RF, Blanco SS/2nd, Murph LF/CF, Hamilton, Cruz, Borbon, Napoli, Torrealba, Beltre, Kinsler, Andrus….this is 13 so Chris is probably the odd man out unless Hamilton is full-time CF, Murph playing there sometimes, and Moreland is back up RF so that the team can send Borbon back to RR to get his shit together.
Finally June 1st could be a good time with the possible Feldman, Hurley, Tanner, Webb being re-enforcements….this is a good thing….hoping Feldman’s issues last year were due to knee and not his arm. If Feldman and Webb aren’t rushed along and Rangers can stay either in 1st or hang around then I think Feldman and Webb will be BIG, BIG contributors to this team June 1st. Rotation of Wilson, Lewis, Feldman, Harrison, Webb June 1st will be much better if Rangers fans and management can stay patient 1st 2 months of the season. The offense will keep this team around every night so if the pitchers can keep Earned Runs around 3-4 night it will be all good June 1st.
