Rougned Odor is not having the best season of his young career. His batting line is .214/.254/.402 with an OPS of .655. His WAR (wins above replacment) is sitting at 0.2. Odor’s career numbers are .254/.292./.451 with an OPS of .743 and a WAR of 4.6.
Odor seems to be coming around lately, he homered twice in the Rangers come from behind win against Tampa Bay Sunday, but his defense has not been the best this season. It is not showing up in the stats, it is mental mistakes that are frustrating fans.
Meanwhile, the former number one prospect Jurickson Profar sits at Round Rock, awaiting his turn in the big leagues. He is batting .292/.384/.416 with 29 walks in 233 at bats. These are minor league numbers, but right now who would you rather have at second base? Odor is still a good prospect, but he is not playing good baseball right now.
Does Odor need time to sort it out in the minors? I’m not sure. Profar is doing very well there, and I believe that he deserves another shot in the majors, albeit here or somewhere else.
Will the Rangers replace their well paid second baseman with Profar? Highly doubtful. Will the Rangers trade Profar? Likely, depending on what they can get in return. I believe Odor will come around, and I hope for Profar’s sake he gets a chance somewhere. Right now the Rangers need to keep winning so they aren’t encouraged to be a seller.
