The Rangers are sputtering down the stretch. They have lost seven of their last eight, and they now can’t make it to eighty wins. 79-83 is now the best they can do. 2017 is drawing to a conclusion, and it leaves me wondering, who do the Texas Rangers have lef under contract in 2018?
The Rangers free agents comimg into the offseason are as follows:
Carlos Gomez
Jason Grilli
Andrew Cashner
Mike Napoli (he has an option, but I wouldn’t pick it up)
Miguel Gonzalez
These players are arbitration eleigable:
Jake Diekman
Jurickson Profar
A.J. Griffin
Tanner Scheppers
Phil Gosselin
Ryan Rua
Keone Kela
A whole bunch more are pre-arbitration ready.
The Rangers need to do some soul searching. The team should have been good, but it wasn’t. Cole Hamels, Martin Perez, Nick Martinez, Tony Barnette, Matt Bush, Tyson Ross, Jason Grilli, Yohander Mendez and others all had not good years. The team ERA is 4.66. They need pitching badly.
It’ll be interesting to see what the Rangers do to fix all of the issues that 2017 presented. I am at the point where I blame Jon Daniels. Letting Mike Maddux go was a catistrophic mistake, the ERA has gone up over a run per game since he left. Prince Fielder, Shin-SooChoo are horrible contracts. Rougie had an awful year. The off-season should hold a lot of moves for this ballclub.
