I just love opening day. The feeling, the anticipation, the joy. And today was no different. The Rangers began the season on a Thursday afternoon against the World Series Champion
Houston Astros. The game did not go the Rangers way score wise, but it wasn’t all bad in my opinion.
Hamels went five innings and gave up three runs. Not awful. Jose Leclerc and Chris Martin were great, Bush struggled and gave up one run, but escaped with no more damage. For once, pitching was not the major problem. The Rangers could not hit the ball.
Besides Adrian and Elvis, the rest of the offense was pretty much non existant. The Astros comtrolled Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara really well. The Rangers still seem lost at the plate, going for homeruns down by four in the eighth. There are actually places in the game where a bunt, single or walk is needed more than the long ball. Rangers pitching coaches seem to not teach any kind of situational baseball.
Now don’t get me wrong, I still loved watching the first game of meaningdul baseball! I am also looking forward to each and every game this season. The best time of the year has returned, its time for Rangers baseball!
