Texas Rangers Sign Hunter Pence and Matt Davidson to Minor League Deals

Hunter Pence and Matt Davidson are now employed by the Texas Rangers. They both signed minor league deals today.

Davidson is an infielder who can also pitch, so that should be interesting. It has been a while since the Rangers have had a two way player. He is righthanded. He will focus on hitting and fielding during spring training, but it would not be out of the question to see him get some pitching time as well.

Pence was a former pick of the Houston Astros and was loved in Houston before he went to the Giants. It was a signing that I don’t think anyone could see coming. Pence is a good career hitter, with a .280/.334/.458 career slash line, but he has had a bad couple of seasons the last few. He batted .260/.315/.385 slash line in 2017 and a .226/.258/.332 slash line last year. He may not be the player he once was, but it does not seem bad to take a chance on him at this point.

Spring training starts next week and we will have a lot to write and talk about the next few weeks!
