The Texas Rangers begin their Spring Training playing schedule today against the Kansas City Royals. Ariel Jurado will start for the Texas squad while Glenn Sparkman will go for KC. Here is the Rangers starting lineup:
DeShields (CF)
Calhoun (DH)
Gallo (LF)
Davidson (3B)
Guzman (1B)
Mathis (C)
Ibanez (2B)
White (SS)
Tocci (RF)
Today is the first game, so that means that most of these guys will get a maximum of 2 at bats. The Rangers will debut Jeff Mathis at catcher today. Chirs Woodward will also be managing his first ever game at the major league level, even if it is spring training.
What to watch for? Not too much. I expect to see a lot of pitchers and position players get a little bit of playing time today, so that the management can start evaluating them. Should be fun just to know that Rangers baseball is happening. After today, we will have at least minimal stats to look at and begin making predictions!
