The Texas Rangers have broken camp with twenty-five guys. The team is set. Notably missing from the twenty-five man team is Willie Calhoun. Calhoun is in the best shape of his life and looked really good at camp. The problem is that Hunter Pence did really good as well and made the team. Calhoun will start the year in AAA Nashville, but we will see him in Arlington sooner rather than later if you ask my opinion.
Here is the team as it stands today:
Starters:
Mike Minor
Edinson Volquez
Lance Lynn
Drew Smyly
Shelby Miller
Those are a whole lot of guys who are recovering from Tommy John surgery. Should be interesting to see how most of them hold up.
Relievers:
Jose Leclrec (Closer)
Shawn Kelly
Chris Martin
Jesse Chavez
Zach McAllister
Jeffrey Springs
Jeanmar Gomez (promoted when Jason Hammel retired).
This bullpen is a mixture of young guys and some veterans. They have a chance to be really good or to be terrible. Hopefully they are good.
Infield:
Catchers –
Jeff Mathis
Isiah Kiner-Falefa
First Base –
Ronald Guzman
Second Base –
Roughned Odor
Third Base –
Asdrubal Cabrera
Short Stop –

Designated Hitter –
Shin Soo-Choo
Bench:
Logan Forsythe
Outfield:
Right Field –
Nomar Mazara
Center Field –
Delino DeShields
Right Field –
Joey Gallo
Bench –
Hunter Pence
That makes, by my count, twenty-four guys. They have until opening day to pick the one other guy. I will comment on the season soon, and give my predictions on records and division winners. The New Ranger Report Podcast will also begin again as the season begins. Please give it a listen and let me know what you think of it. We are always looking for interesting and entertaining guests and co-hosts so let me know if you are interested in helping out. And as always don’t forget to give to our pateron!
