The Texas Rangers flip flopped a loss and a win over the weekend. They had a big lead on the Athletics on Friday night before the bull pen came in and surrendered it. The Rangers had a 6-1 lead going into the sixth inning, and the pen managed to not only cough it up, but do it in quick fashion. They gave up at least one run each frame from the sixth on. It was a frustrating loss to say the least.
Saturday was rained out, and Sunday saw them come back from behind and win. It was similar to what the loss looked like on Friday. The Rangers had another come from behind win on Monday night. So who is this team? Are they the winners from the last two games, or the team that can’t catch a break? My short answer is yes.
There is a lot that goes into winning a major league game. You have to get timely hits. Outs need to come at the right time. Pitching can bend but not break. Stop the big innings from happening on defense. Baseball is a game of cycles. The Rangers will have games where everything goes right. Games will also go horribly wrong at times. Seasons are long for a reason. Unfortunately, people and teams go through slumps. Make sure you have more hot streaks than slumps.
The Rangers report card after the first two weeks or so (in my grading scale, anyway) is a B. They are not great, but they are better than expected and entertaining. I still don’t see them winning the World Series in 2019. If they can finish somewhere in the middle, I’ll be pretty happy. At least they will be a fun team to watch.
