Asdrubal Cabrera has been put in a tough situation. He is taking over a position that was manned by an all time Rangers great the last few years. Cabrera has said there is no replacing Adrian Beltre, and he is right. Someone still had to play third base. Joey Gallo is now an outfielder, and a good one. Jurkison Profar was shipped off to the Athletics. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is a full time catcher now. The Rangers decided to go and get Cabrera.
Cabrera is batting .224 with 9 home runs and 31 RBI. He is having good at bats in big situations. He had the game winning RBI in Wednesday afternoons game against the Mariners. In the error department he has only committed three. The Rangers found a good, solid veteran third baseman. I was not sure when they got him if he would be good fit or not, but so far I have been very pleased with his results on the field. Cabrera has been more than equitable at third.
The Rangers only gave Cabrera a one year deal worth around 3.3 million dollars, so they did not take a huge chance on him. He is one of Jon Daniels bets that has paid off the first third of the season. If Patrick Wisdom is not ready for the 2020 season, I could see the Rangers re-uping the 33 year old for another year in Texas. It is always nice when a deal works, which has not seemed to happen for Daniels lately.
