When Hunter Pence signed with the Texas Rangers this past off season, he was done. His production was way down, he was old and tired. He had nothing left in the tank. The Rangers were just being nice to the home town boy. My how things have changed.
Not only is Hunter starting in the All-Star game, he is batting .294/.353/.608. All three numbers are better than his career average. In 2017-2018, Pence had 17 home runs combined. It’s not even the All-Star break yet and Hunter already has 15 home runs in 2019. He should be up for comeback player of the year.
Just like Hunter Pence, the Ranger are also having a comeback year. Their record sits at 45-36. They hold the second wild card spot right now. Not at all what I predicted, but I’m glad to be so wrong. After the all star break, I am going to have to come up with a new prediction. I said 65 to 67 wins, and they already have 45 wins in just 81 games.
Will they hold the wild card? I can’t answer that, but if Pence and the Rangers continue to play like they have the first half of the season, they could do something special. There are 81 games left to go, if they win another 45 they will hit 90. That would be truly amazing.
Hunter Pence was a great pickup for Texas, and I believe he is one of the main reasons that the Rangers are where they are. That is pretty amazing in itself.
