The Rangers are not going well at the moment. They have been struggling mightily since the All-Star break. Joey Gallo is out for the remainder of the season most likely. Mike Minor has not been pitching as well, but is still very good. Danny Santana has been unbelievable since the break. So what should the Rangers do?
My personal feelings? The Rangers should not trade away anyone if the return is not overwhelming. They have a chance to be a good team in 2020, so players like Minor, Lynn, Santana, and Mazara could make a serious impact on a good team. Will Texas get overwhelming deals for any of their players? Probably not, but I am afraid that Jon Daniels will trade some of them anyway.
Santana and Minor are probably worth the most. I would like to keep both of those guys. I like Mazara, but I also like Calhoun. The outfield is over-crowded at the moment, so it would not be a shock if one or two of them disappeared. If the Rangers can keep Minor and Lynn, they would need one more middle of the rotation guy and one back of the rotation guy to have a good shot in 2020. If they can get the return they want from any of our outfielders, I say go for it.
The winter seems like the best time for the Rangers to deal. They should hold at the moment and wait for this season to play out.
