Center Field – Spring Training 2020

The Texas Rangers have Danny Santana slotted to be the everyday center fielder in 2020. Santana had a really good 2019 with the club, and he did play some center field for the Rangers in 19. Just like Guzman at first base, center field seems to be his to lose. While they really want to get Santana at bats, there is another player fighting for his spot. Nick Solak.

Solak has a chance this spring to take the starting job from Santana if he impresses enough. That would not necessarily be a bad thing for Danny. The Rangers could use him as a super utility guy and also they would have a backup plan in Rougned Odor fails again. Personally, I don’t think the Rangers would be too upset if they started Solak at center field.

Danny Santana brings so much to the table as a super utility guy, it may be the best thing for him as well. In 2019 he hit .283 with 28 home runs and 83 RBI in 474 at bats. He was a force in the Rangers line up. Solak has been touted for a little while as a really good prospect, so we will see how he does this spring. Nick, at Nashville, hit .347 with 10 home runs and 27 RBI in just 118 at bats.

My opinion? Either way the Rangers win. They either have Solak play center field and they have Santana super utility, or they have Santana play center field. I am really looking forward to seeing this battle for center field play out in spring training.
