This series is about the best Ranger at each position, not the most popular. That being said, I considered three Rangers at this position. Alex Rodriguez, Michael Young and Elvis Andrus. A-Rod, by the numbers offensively was pretty amazing, but we all know he was juicing. Michael Young was there for the better part of 4 years (2004-2008 full time at that position). So I’m going with Elvis Andrus.
Andrus is second in hits with 6,968 hits, he is second in games played, has a career batting average of .275 and has been a staple at shortstop for the Rangers for the last eleven years. After Adrian Beltre retired, Elvis became the clubhouse leader. It is hard to not see him as a young player anymore since he has so much fun playing the game.
Fielding he has been solid over his career. He and Beltre were the most fun duo to watch for years. I feel pretty confident that I will not get a lot of arguments on Elvis being the best shortstop of all time for the Texas Rangers.
