The Sadness of Globe Life Field

Today was to be opening day at Globe Life Field. Of course that is not happening. COVID-19 ruined all of that. All of our lives have changed as well, not just our baseball viewing. Teaching is what I do for a living, and my life has completely changed. I like routine. I like consistency. It’s the way I run my classroom. Now I run my classroom online, which is not comfortable.

But back to baseball. Not having baseball is a big blow to a lot of us. Obviously we know it means little during a major pandemic, but it sure would help with all this staying at home. This really makes me miss the “old” ballpark. I’ve been though it before, but that ballpark holds a lot of memories for me. I’m sure it holds memories for all of you as well.

I’m healthy (mostly, nothing related to the virus), my children and wife is healthy, my students are doing well. We are finding ways to teach. While I miss baseball, I understand the reason for what was done. I have an elderly parent that would be at risk if they caught the virus.

We will continue doing our series on the greatest Ranger at each position. So far we have Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez at catcher. Then we have Adrian Beltre at third base, Elvis Andrus at shortstop and Michael Young at second base. Next up will be first base. I will run a poll on twitter and on Facebook. Let me know who you think should be the greatest at first base. As always, thanks for reading and stay safe and healthy readers. God Bless.
