The Rangers have not been a very good offensive team. You could even say it is a very bad offensive team. They have scored six runs in four games, total. Forget about it with runners in scoring position. It is a real shame that the team finally has good pitching but not good offense. They have only allowed twelve runs, and three of those in Monday’s game were unearned.
Before you get all over me for being negative this early in the season, it will change. They will have games where the offense scores twelve runs in one game. That, in my opinion, will not be the norm. It should be an interesting season. I am not sure where the problem lies, since they have only played five games so far. I am sure that there is a problem though.
I’m watching the other teams the Rangers play and how patient they are at the plate. Every Rangers pitcher has been close to or over twenty pitches for the first inning in almost every game. The Rangers batters have not been patient on the other hand. I’m watching them swing wildly at almost anything that is thrown their way.
More discipline at the plate would not only be nice, it is necessary to win in 2020. Every pitcher that faces the 2020 Rangers can’t be sitting at 80 pitches in the seventh inning. The offense has to be much more selective. Watching the Rangers get dominated by Kelly was painful to watch. The defense has to improve as well. Errors lead to runs, as happened last night. The Rangers have a team ERA under 3, but they are 1-3. That is unacceptable.
The game against Arizona today has the opportunity to have some offense with young players in the mix. Jose Trevino, Adolis Garcia, Scott Heineman, and Nick Solak are all in the line up. I will enjoy watching some of the Rangers future on the field today.
Will this team improve? They have too. You can’t have a team ERA of under 3 and a batting average of .156. My hope is that today’s shakeup will jolt the offense into doing something. The fact is that if it doesn’t, we are in for a very, very long sixty game season.
