Bad, Bad Game

In case you did not watch last night or you gave up early like a lot of people did, the Rangers played a bad game last night. There is no getting around it. I was following my twitter feed last evening during the game, and was amazed at how many people were in a state of depression about it. If you watch baseball more than 10-20 times a year, you know that really bad games happen, and they happen to every team. Matt Harrison has been nothing short of amazing so far this season, and as amazing as he has been was as bad as he was last night. Does that mean the end of the road for Harrison? Does that mean we should drop him as a starter and promote someone from AAA ball? No, it doesn’t. If he has 3 to 4 starts like last night, then we will talk. Also, if you turned off the game early, you missed really good performance from Brett Tomko, who, after a shaky start, pitched 5 good innings. Yes the Rangers looked bad, but that is one of 162. Plus, the Rangers have two teams a year that they cannot seem to beat, and the Blue Jays seem to always be one of them. So lets look at the bad and the good from last night.

The Bad

1. Matt Harrison- I am not worried yet, but I am a little concerned seeing that he has fallen apart before during seasons that he has played well to start. Lets see how he goes from here before we write him off.

2. Ian Kinsler swinging for the….infield – Ian is starting to worry me, returning to that “I don’t give a crap” uppercut swing that he has suffered from before. Ian needs to remember he is at his best when he is trying to get base hits and score 7 runs in one swing.

3. The on again off again offense. They are good, they just need to work on consistency.

The Good

1. Julio Borbon – Julio threw out a runner trying to take third, made two great catches and had some great, timely hits. Way to go Julio. I hope we see more of the same from him in the near future.

2. Chris Davis – again, most everyone on the twitter feed last evening was hating on Davis, even going as far as to say he was the reason Matt Harrison was pitching so bad. Chris had two doubles and played pretty well in the field.

3. Yourvit – he was 3 for 3 before Ron pulled him. Nice night for him.

Tonight’s start for Holland is a big deal. The Rangers need to get back on track, 2 in a row is not the end of the world, but the Rangers need to not go on a long losing streak. Oh, by  the way, for all of you fatalists out there, the Rangers are still in first place, in case you were wondering.
