It is time to decide who is the greatest Ranger of all time. This site has spent months counting down and we are finally here. While the round of four was difficult, it came down to the two players I had in my original bracket. Michael Young and Pudge Rodriguez.
The Bracket
We began with 64 of the greatest Ranger players of all time. We did a lot of research and asked a lot of Rangers fans to put the list together, and we had some healthy debate along the way. Once selected, we then turned the bracket over to the fans. You guys started voting and brought us to a great round of 16. After that we had an even better round of eight. Alex Rodriguez was dismissed early in the process. Mike Napoli took care of Yu Darvish in the first round. But just like the regular bracket, we got down to who we expected.
The Last Four
Pudge took care of Nolan Ryan with 60% of the vote. Rodriguez is one of the most beloved Rangers of all time, and he began his career as a Ranger. He became a superstar as a Ranger. He is still involved with the organization. Ryan is also beloved, but I believe that Rangers fans made the correct choice. Ryan finished his career as a Ranger and set many records that will probably never be broken. Pudge won the hearts of Rangers fans as a young player that played hard and threw out a lot of attempted base stealers.
Young defeated Adrian Beltre in a much tighter race. Michael garnered 52% of the vote. Rangers fans were torn on this one. Young was known for a while as “Mr. Ranger”. He is still a staple in Dallas and still works with the Rangers. He stepped aside for Adrian when asked to. Young holds many Rangers records and will for a long time.
The Vote
I am not sure how this will turn out, but now I leave it in your capable hands Rangers fans. The poll will be open for a week, and will end the day before the season begins. Good luck and happy voting!
