Friday Opening Day Roster Predictions

Time for another addition of Friday roster predictions. Some things have changed since the last one. Several guys are now on the team, so that makes it easier. Baseball is going to be played for real in six days!

Starting Rotation

The first three are still going to be the same as they were. The last two have changed for me. It will probably change again before it is all said and done.

  1. Kyle Gibson
  2. Kohei Arihara
  3. Mike Foltynewicz
  4. Dane Dunning/Jordan Lyles
  5. Kyle Cody/Taylor Hearn

The Rangers are talking about a tandem for the last few spots, so that is the way I see it playing out.

Bullpen

There are some potential starters in the bullpen right now, but this is the way I think the season will start:

  1. Ian Kennedy
  2. Josh Sborz
  3. Brett Martin
  4. Wes Benjamin
  5. Brett De Geus
  6. Hyeon-Jong Yang

That is six bullpen guys and two tandem starters for eight total relief pitchers.

Infield

The infield has pretty much been decided now that a few guys have been told they made the team. Here is my guess at the starting day infield.

  1. Jose Trevino – Catcher
  2. Ronald Guzman – First base
  3. Nick Solak – Second base
  4. Isiah Kiner-Falefa – shortstop
  5. Rougned Odor – Third base
  6. Brock Holt – bench
  7. Jordan Heim – bench
  8. Nate Lowe – Bench

That leaves no room for Charlie Culberson, who I thought had a great spring.

Outfield

The outfield will be pretty cut and dry for the beginning of the season. I see no suprises and this has been my starting three for a while.

  1. Joey Gallo – Right field
  2. Leody Taveras – Center Field
  3. David Dahl – Left Field
  4. Eli White – bench
  5. Khris Davis – Bench/DH (injured)
  6. Willie Calhoun – Bench/DH (injured)

That is 27 by my count on my roster predictions, but Davis and possibly Calhoun will start on the IL. It’s almost baseball time in Texas!
