Road Trip Blues

The Rangers road trip went as badly as a road trip could. They lost all six games. Four of those were to Houston. It really was a terrible week for the Rangers. Panic has set in for many Rangers fans. Now should not be a time to panic. We knew going in that this was a rebuilding year. We didn’t expect them to be good. While that was a bad week, it was just six out of 162 games.

Pitching let them down for the most part. Both starters and relievers struggled to get outs. The Rangers also could not hit with runners in scoring position. Wes Benjamin didn’t make it out of the second inning in his start. Dane Dunning gave up a four spot in the first of his game. Brett De Geus gave up four runs in one third of an inning Friday. Not good at all.

My pre-season prediction had the Rangers at 67-95. They are close to on pace for that. They will trade away people before the season ends. Kyle Gibson, Mike Foltynewicz, Brock Holt and even Joey Gallo will be shopped around. This team will get even younger. They are going to go through some rough patches. Even so, it is hard to watch a 0-6 road trip.

Their path does not get any easier. They have the Yankees and Houston coming up this week. The New Yorkers are playing pretty well right now, and Houston just swept the Rangers. Fans need to settle in for a long summer and not expect too much from this team. Enjoy some minor league baseball. Enjoy watching the future playing in Arlington. Take pride in the little victories. But remember, this season is more about development than wins and losses.
