Now, we all know the Rangers have been struggling of late, and we all know that Safeco is a tough place to hit, but what we do not know right now is when the Rangers will bounce back from the slump they are in. We all (at least I hope we all) know that they will bounce back, and I say it is high time! The Rangers have been very good against the Mariners over the past few seasons, and they have already swept them once this season. Now would be a good time to take advantage of the good starting pitching they have been getting from the 3 guys who will be starting in Seattle.
Tuesday, May 3, 2011 – A. Ogando (3-0, 2.30 ERA) vs. E. Bedard (1-4, 5.96 ERA)
Don’t let the ERA for Bedard fool you. He is still a good pitcher. The Rangers know that he has a chance to dominate them, and he has a career ERA of 3.28 against Texas, that is 2.5 runs lower than his ERA this season. The good news is that tonight he is matched up against Alexi Ogando. Ogando has been great so far in 2011, and I think that he continues that trend tonight. I look for Alexi to go 7+ innings against the offensively challenged Mariners, holding them to 2 runs or less. I hope the pen can get the job done tonight after that. The Rangers will win tonight.
Wednesday, May 4th, 2011 – C. Wilson (3-1, 3.35 ERA) vs. M. Pineada (4-1, 2.01 ERA)
Pineada is off to a good start for the Mariners, and the Rangers are going to have a little trouble hitting him at Safeco Field. That being said, look what they did to Brett Anderson the other day. The Rangers always have a chance to spank an opposing pitcher no matter where they are playing, and I think they have that chance here. It is all up to C.J. It seems to me when C.J. gets off to a great start, the offense kind of reacts to that and has a good game. C.J. needs to do that on Wednesday night, and if he does, the Rangers have no problems taking care of the M’s in this one. If C.J. does not do that, it will be another long night for Ranger fans.
Thursday, May 5, 2011 – C. Lewis (2-3, 5.70 ERA) vs J. Vargus (1-2, 5.45 ERA)
If you watched the last performance by Colby Lewis, you know that he pitched more like the Lewis of last season. It is almost like he and Harrison cannot pitch good at the same time. That being said, I believe that Lewis is back and is now in season form and will allow 3 or less runs in most if his starts, like he did last season. The question is, can the Rangers hit for him. Last season they could not, this season so far, they have. If that continues on Thursday, the Ranger will win this game very easily with the ERA of Vargus and experience a lot of the Rangers players have against him. This should be a close game and a fun game to watch, in my opinion.
So, there is your preview. Leave me some comments to tell me what you think. I would love to hear from you.
