The Ranger Report Podcast sat down with Texas Rangers prospect Zak Kent on Monday. Now Kent was born in 1998 in Henrico, Virginia. He played his high school and college ball in the state of Virginia, and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the ninth round of the 2019 draft.
The Past Two Seasons
So Kent pitched 19.1 innings in 2019 and 89 innings in 2021 (COVID took away his 2020). In nine starts for Hickory, Kent went 6-2 with a 2.83 ERA. He was then promoted to Frisco and finished the season there. He was not satisfied with his results in Frisco. “Got called up to AA for like, the last quarter of that season… Pitched pretty well there, ran into a little bit of bad luck, a little bit of timely hitting…I was pretty excited for how I was. I knew, I knew I was able to have a year where I would break out for the organization and tell them…I’m serious, I’m the real deal” Kent said on the Ranger Report Podcast.
When asked if Kent had a chip on his shoulder about being looked over several times in his life, he told the podcast “I’m kind of at the point…where I don’t even have a shoulder anymore, it’s kind of my whole shoulder now”. He went on to say he wants to prove he belongs.
Kent’s Story
Kent went on to answer questions about his off season training regiment, his plans for the holidays and even told us what the funniest thing that was ever said to him while he was on the mound.
So Kent was very gracious to give us some of his time during the holidays. The podcast is definitely worth the listen if you are a fan of prospects. Because it is always nice to get to know a little more about what makes these young men tick. Be sure to catch the Ranger Report Podcast everywhere you get your podcasts. Thanks again to Zak Kent for joining us.
