The Texas Rangers had some bad luck on Wednesday, taking a 7-0 lead in a game against the A’s in a contest that would up not counting due to rain. Mitch Moreland hit a grand slam that did not count, and Michael Young walked with the bases loaded to score a run that also did not count, but, hey, I’m not bitter at it at all. The Rangers have the 1st place Angels in town (a record of 21-17) and they can do some damage against them if they can get a sweep. (the Rangers are only 1.5 games out). So, will they sweep them?
Friday May 13, 2011 – Ogando (3-0, 2.17 ERA) v Weaver (6-2, 1.87 ERA)
Weaver started the season on a tear, but has now lost a few games. He also did not even last 6 innings in his last start. Can this be a sign of things to come, or will Weaver get back on track against the Rangers tonight? My hope is that he a Friday the 13th moment and allows a “scary” amount of runs to the Rangers tonight. You know that Moreland is hungry to hit another grand slam, and Young is tearing it up at the plate at the moment. But, Weaver is not the only pitcher starting the game tonight. Ogando missed his last start against the Yankees, and it did not go well for the Rangers. Ogando has his finger fixed, the Rangers hope, by giving him a new fingernail where he keeps getting the blister. If Ogando is on tonight, the Rangers have a real chance to get inside Weavers head and win this game big. I think they will.
Saturday, May 14, 2011 – Holland (3-1, 5.18 ERA) v. Haren (4-2, 1.87 ERA)
Holland was cruising through his last start, until he had one of those awful innings that he sometimes has. I think he will pitch much better against the Angels than he did in his last start, but he will be facing Dan Haren, who has been unstoppable so far this season. I hope Haren is the one who falters, but I have a feeling that will not be the case. I think the Angels take this one.
Sunday, May 15, 2011 – Wilson (4-2, 3.36 ERA) v Santana (1-4, 4.81 ERA)
C.J. had one bad pitch last game, and it cost him. He also walked to many and was very frustrated with himself. C.J. is pretty good about recovering and learning from a bad start, and I think he will here. Also, the Rangers really hit Santana well last time they faced him, and I think that they will again. It is the last home game for a while, and I think the Rangers will be aiming to make a statement in this game. I say the Rangers win this one and get ready for a tough road trip.
