I shouldn’t be surprised.
The Dallas Cowboys, since the MLB lockout is currently in place, were my main focus Sunday. They let us down – again.
I’m not surprised, though. Over the past 25-plus years of futility, Dallas – and others involved in the games – has made sure that no deep playoff run will happen.
That’s what I expect now, every year. To be let down.
I intended to have this article released on Monday, but I was dealing with the depression of the Cowboys loss and just stopped writing. I’m sure you’re wondering: Why is CJ writing about the Cowboys on a Texas Rangers forum?
Because of the lockout, easy answer. We can’t get answers from anyone close to the team because they are refusing to talk, but don’t worry – I’m about to change it up.
Once the lockout ends, expect the Rangers to make a flurry of moves. By that I mean trades.
Minor league players such as Justin Foscue, Ezekuiel Duran, Josh Smith and Luisangel Acuna are now blocked by the long-term signings of Corey Seager and Marcus Semien. They have all now become valuable trade pieces.
If the Rangers want to make a blockbuster trade, we might see a lot of guys we fell in love with last season in the minors get moved. That includes Blaine Crim, Jake Latz, Zak Kent, Bubba Thompson, Josh Stowers and even Sam Huff.
We talked a lot about this with SI.com’s Chris Halicke in an upcoming podcast. Be sure to listen to that episode because, as you all know by know, Chris doesn’t hold back with the information he has. That’s why we call him The Ranger Report BFF.
So, the Cowboys lost. Now we try to turn our attention to baseball, but there’s nothing to pay attention to because of the lockout except international signings, which I believe the Rangers did a great job in acquiring some excellent talent outside our borders.
But, point blank – this sucks.
Hopefully talks will resume soon and an agreement can be made before Spring Training, but it sounds like it’s going to drag on so far that Spring Training will be shortened.
This lockout not only affects the free agents who are currently without jobs, but it affects guys like Latz and Thompson – who are Rule 5 eligible.
Hold onto your butts, because we have no idea when this CBA thing will be settled and what the immediate and long-term future of the MLB will look like. But when it does, Ben Dieter and I will be all over it.
