The MLB lockout that started December 2 is finally moving in the right direction. The players association and the owners met for two days in a row. They are scheduled to meet again today. The back and forth has been refreshing, since they are actually talking. Each side knows they are going to have to make concessions. They are finally talking enough to hash that out.
As a baseball fan, I do not want to see Spring Training and the season delayed in any way. I look forward to pitchers and catchers reporting every spring. If the last few days are a sign, they are finally getting close enough to at least get a deal done and only miss a little of ST. Now there is still a lot to hash out. Money is the big one. No surprise. They players want more for the younger players in the league and themselves. The owners want more control over players. There is a ton to hash out. But the conversation seems to finally be happening.
My best guess is this is not very close to being over, but it is closer. Hopefully no one stages an angry walkout saying the other side is being stubborn. I still believe that the lockout is going to go into spring training. I believe that major league players will report late. I think that the owners will get most of what they want. At the end of the day, the players want to play and the owners know that.
So we brace for another day of meetings with the hopes that this lockout will reach a conclusion soon. We need to hear the words “Play Ball” sooner rather than later.
