Since the lockout is over I am continuing my series called forty man Friday with a look at Corey Seager. Born in 1994, Seager made his professional debut with the Dodgers in September of 2015.
Dodger Years
In his first full season with the Dodgers he won rookie of the year. He was voted for the award unanimously.
Seager was an All-Star in both 2016 and 2017, but in 2018 he was diagnosed with a strain in the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow, requiring Tommy John surgery, causing him to miss the remainder of the 2018 season.
During the COVID shortened 2020 season, Seager and the Dodgers won the World Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington. He was the National League Championship Series and World Series MVP.
Seager played in 91 games during the 2021 season hitting .306/.394/.521 with 16 homers and 57 RBI. He had 2 seasons with more than 20 home runs, both before Tommy John Surgery (2016 and 2017)
Rangers Day
Seager signed a 10 year, $325mm contract with the Texas Rangers, announced the day before the lockout started. The Rangers and Corey were not allowed to have any contact after that due to the lockout that just ended/
Seager will play shortstop for the Rangers for the foreseeable future. Rangers fans hope that he will be one of the players on the Rangers first ever World Series Championship team.
His brother (Kyle Seager) was a great Major League player and a thorn in the Rangers side during his years in Seattle. Hopefully Corey will return the favor to the Mariners.
In conclusion, Seager was a great get for the Texas Rangers. Most people believed that they did not really have a shot at signing him away from the Dodgers, however, money talks.
Now that spring training is about to begin, it should be fun to keep up with the new Texas Rangers future players and how they are doing.
