It has been a week or so since I did the Texas Rangers roster projections. That’s too long.
Things change on the daily at this point of Spring Training, including a handful of minor league camp assignments. I thought we would take our stab at the roster, version 2.0.
Pitching
The bullpen has morphed and shifted, but the starting rotation is going to stay pretty much the same. The first four in the rotation are pretty much set at this point of camp.
The difficulty for the team will be balancing young arms with the veterans they are working out in camp. Here is my best shot at doing that for opening day roster projections.
Starting Rotation
Jon Gray (RHP), Martin Perez (LHP), Dane Dunning (RHP), Taylor Hearn (LHP) and A.J. Alexy (RHP). Alexy has yet to give up a run in five innings pitched and I think he will edge our Kolby Allard.
Spencer Howard has pitched only 2 innings, and Glenn Otto has an ERA of 10.80 in 1.2 innings pitched. Jake Latz has given up one run so far.
To me Alexy deserves the shot at the rotation. We’ll see if I am right or not.
The Bullpen
Joe Barlow (RHP), Matt Bush (RHP), Greg Holland (RHP), John King (LHP), Brett Martin (LHP), Dennis Santana (RHP), Garrett Richards (RHP), Josh Sborz (RHP), Kolby Allard (RHP) and Nick Snyder (RHP).
This differs from 1.0 a bit. I didn’t have Richards and I did have Spencer Patton. I could easily be wrong.
Fielding
The position players and bench players are next. Once again, this will differ some from 1.0 but not as much as I thought.
Infield
Catcher Mitch Garver, First Base Nathaniel Lowe, Second Base Marcus Semien, Shortstop Corey Seager, Third Base Andy Ibanez, DH Willie Calhoun.
Outfield
Right Field Kole Calhoun, Center Field Adolis Garcia, Left Field Brad Miller. I have Miller in instead of Eli White, although I believe White makes the team.
Bench
Jonah Heim, Charlie Culberson, Eli White, and Nick Solak.
Let me know on Facebook or Twitter where I am right and where I am wrong. Only a few weeks left until the Major League Baseball season starts!
