Since NBC lost some key words in the pledge of allegiance today during the U.S. Open, I thought I would put them here. I know that this is primarily a baseball site, but we also have a segment called “Swing and a Miss” here which documents absurdities, such as this one. How do you edit out part of the pledge said by a bunch of school kids? Seriously, are we so sensitive as a nation now that we are worried about offending someone by saying our pledge? Apparently not, as a nation anyway. After a serious outcry on twitter and other social media outlets, Dan Hicks, the NBC host, read this statement: “It was our intent to begin our coverage of this U.S. Open championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being here in our nation’s capital for the third time. Regrettably, a portion of the pledge of allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we’d like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it.” Wow, for the first time in a long time a T.V. company apologizes to the christian demographic of the nation! I just hope NBC learned its lesson, Don’t mess with the pledge man!
