Jon Gray comes off his second IL stint this evening to start the game for the Texas Rangers. He found himself on the IL after both his starts.
In fact, Jon Gray has only pitched more that 150 innings twice in his career. The last time was 2019.
Above is a list of injuries that Gray has had since 2019. Not all of them are serious, but some are concerning.
Jon is not expected to be the number 1 starter on this team when they contend. Hopefully he will be a four or five on a very talented rotation.
That begs the question, how healthy can Jon Gray be for the 2022 Rangers? Can he make it to 150+ innings? History says no.
While he should be a decent starter in 2022, I think we are starting to figure out that he is not a long term answer in the rotation.
If he can give us 150+ innings and strike out a batter per inning I think that will be a success. I am just not sure he will hit the 150 inning mark in 2022.
Will he sustain another injury tonight? Hopefully not. But I just don’t have confidence that the 30-year-old Gray is just not too fragile.
