The Texas Rangers pinch hit themselves to their third victory in a row. Chris Woodward decided to pinch hit for three straight batters in the sixth inning and that wound up being the difference.
Jonah Heim fresh off maternity leave hit a homer in the game, just like he said he would.
“Everybody’s like, ‘You’ve got to hit a homer; baseball knows you’re going to hit a homer,'” said Heim. “So I was just kind of joking around with my wife like, ‘Hey, I was told I have to hit a homer, so expect a homer.'”
Heim is not the first to come off the list and jack one deep. But it was a fun moment to watch.
Reking Crew
Zak Reks, who I had on the opening day roster, came through again with an RBI double to score 2 and give the Rangers the lead for good.
With Willie Calhoun now at Round Rock, it is nice to see Reks performing at the major league level. I’m not saying he is going to be an All-Star outfielder, but he is showing for now that he belongs with the big club.
Jon Gray did not have the best start coming off the injured list, but he was able to limit the damage after the first inning. He only lasted 3 innings.
Pentastic
I suppose the good news is that he did not go on the injured list after his start for the first time this season. The bullpen came through giving up only one homerun (Matt Bush) on a pretty good pitch. Sometimes you tip your cap.
The pen pitched 6 innings giving up 1 run on 6 hits. Perhaps the innings of the night was John King getting himself into an then out of trouble in the seventh.
Looking for Four Straight
The Texas Rangers continue their series with the Phillies this evening at 5:45 with Martin Perez set to take the mound for the Texas team. Texas is looking to win their fourth in a row tonight.
Move are still to be made, and there will be a lot of moving parts over the next few weeks.
