The All-Star break seems like a good time to reflect on the first half of the 2011 season, hand out some Ranger Report Awards, and look ahead to what the Rangers need to do to repeat as AL Champions. I must say that I have really enjoyed the first half of the season, and I see places where the Rangers really did better than I thought they would, but I also see lots of room for improvement. I hope you enjoy our look back at the first half and our look ahead to the second half, and if you do happen to enjoy it, be sure to tell your friends and family to check out our site. We are a site built for Rangers fans like you.
The 2011 season began with hope. More hope than Rangers fans have had in years, seeing that they were coming off of a AL championship season. We as fans were still basking in the glow of the ALCS where the Rangers knocked the playoff monkey off of their backs in the NY Yankees. And the fact that the Rangers played in their first ever World Series. We were also slightly disappointed that the Rangers could not resign Cliff Lee, but Adrian Beltre seemed like he would be a welcome addition to the team. I know you will all call me out and remind me that I was not a real big fan of the Rangers signing Beltre, but I must admit in hindsight that I was wrong on that one. Beltre had improved the offense and defense of the team, and I am now a fan. Anyway, the Rangers came into the season with a couple of question marks at starting pitching, namely Matt Harrison, Derek Holland and Alexi Ogando in the rotation. Matt started out way better than expected, and so did Alexi, but Derek’s start was not a surprise to me. After talking with him before spring training began, he seemed like this was his season to prove that he belonged at the major league level. It was obvious after the first few weeks, after starting an astonishing 6-0 while sweeping the AL pennant favorite Red Sox, that the bull pen was going to be a problem. And it has been for most of the season. Also, defense has been a major woe for this team that made very few errors last season. Over the next 3 days I will break it down in 3 catagories:
The Good
The Bad
The Future
I hope you look forward to reading what I have to offer you in the coming days, and I hope you enjoy tonights all star game. Go Rangers!!
