Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced the following moves before the game Monday night:
- Josh Smith (#47) contract selected from Round Rock (AAA)
- OF Zak Reks (#65) recalled from Round Rock (AAA)
- Brad Miller placed on the 10 day IL with right hip impingement
- RHP Albert Abreu designated for assignment
Josh Smith will be making his Major League Debut this evening. He was acquired by Texas from the Yankees in the Joey Gallo trade last summer. He entered the 2022 season ranked as the Rangers number 9 prospect. The former LSU Tiger was selected in the second round (67 overall) by the NY Yankees in the 2019 draft.
Reks is beginning his second stint with the big club in 2022. HE was batting .337/.427/.629/1.056 with 5 home runs and 18 RBI.
Miller was removed in the fifth inning of the Rangers loss to the Athletics Sunday with right hip tightness. He has a .228 batting average this season with 7 homers and 23 RBI in 41 games so far.
Abreu had an ERA of 3.12 over seven relief appearances in his first year with the Rangers. The team has seven days to trade, release or outright him to the minors.
