The Texas Rangers finished the season with a record of 68-94. That is lower than my predicted 72 wins by 4 (I can math!)
After firing Chris Woodward back on August 15, the Rangers only managed to win 17 out of their last 48 games to finish the season. Not exactly what they were hoping for.
Tony Beasley did a decent job with the lineup he was handed, and he has said that no matter what happens he would like to stay with the organization. Time will tell if that is going to happen.
Now I personally do not believe that Tony will get the job going forward. The Rangers want an experienced manager from everything I am hearing.
So Who?
We have all heard names like Bruce Bochy, Joe Maddon, Mike Scioscia and other high profile guys. If you look at the last few hires for the Rangers, they were not high profile managers at all.
Ron Washington, the winningest manager in Rangers history, was never a manager before coming to Texas. Neither was Jeff Bannister or Woody.
So I would look for someone that Chris Young has had a relationship with in the past (which would include Bochy). Someone like Michael Young could also have the job if he wanted it.
So When?
I tend to think that the Rangers will take their time with this decision. They are really going to want to get it right after six straight losing seasons.
We won’t see a new manager named until around the Winter Meetings in December at the earliest in my humble opinion. Being patient is not a bad thing for a franchise that really needs to get this one right.
In order to be competitive, they need the correct manager in charge, and just hiring anyone is not an option. We will keep you posted here as news develops. This should be an active and crazy off-season for the Texas Rangers.
