According to multiple sources, the Texas Rangers and Martin Perez are meeting today to discuss him staying. Many fans and writers alike are wondering why this meeting didn’t already happen.
I personally will be very pleased if the Rangers get a deal done with Perez. Martin had his best season ever including an All-Star appearance.
Now the real reason it has taken this long? Most of us will never receive the answer to that question.
Either way, it is said to be happening today. I don’t know if the contract will happen today, but they are going to talk about it.
I may be way out of line here, but I think the Rangers can ink him somewhere around $15-17M a year for three years. Maybe an option for a fourth year?
If he will sign for that, I would take him in a heartbeat, even if he regresses a bit and becomes a 4.00 ERA pitcher.
The Rangers have hinted at big pitching moves this winter, and Perez would be a great start. His as your number 3 or four means you have a great rotation.
There will be a lot of time to discuss other options for the pitching staff, but for today, lets all hope that Martin Perez have good conversations and that a contract gets done.
