According to the press release today, the Texas Rangers and Bruce Bochy have agreed on terms. Bochy will be the 20th full time manager in Rangers history.
He is signed through 2025. Of course the Rangers are expected to contend during the next few years. For those that forgot (and that is probably none of you) Bochy was the manager of the Giants when they defeated the Texas Rangers in the 2010 World Series.
“I am incredibly excited to be joining the Texas Rangers” Bochy said according the the press release. “Over the last several days I’ve had extensive conversations with Chris Young and other individuals in the organization, and I had the chance to meet with Ray Davis.”
Bochy went on to say “If I was going to return to managing, it had to be the right situation. I strongly believe that to be the case with the Rangers..”
Bochy won 3 World Series with the Giants and was a catcher during his playing days. He also coached Chris Young during Young’s playing days.
Bochy is the first manager with big league managing experience the Rangers have hired since Buck Showalter.
Rangers fans should be excited about the Bochy hire. He is a good manager, and a good team manager according to reports.
The Texas Rangers and Bruce Bochy have a great chance to get back to the World Series. Everything can go wrong of course, but I feel really good about this hire and can’t wait to see what the rest of the off-season holds for the Rangers organization.
