Maximo Acosta is a 20-year-old Venezuelan born shortstop in the Texas Rangers organization. Acosta had 404 at bats in the 2022 season for Down East.
Signed in the 2019 international class, Acosta hit .262/.341/.361/.702 with 4 homers and 35 RBI in 2022. He also stole 44 bases.
Acosta manages the strike zone very well and has impressive hand-eye coordination. He has a high ceiling for his defensive ability according to scouts.
He was part of a Down East team that went through some great stretches in 2022. Acosta is of course blocked at the Major League level by Corey Seager and Marcus Semien, but he could be a key cog in a future trade.
The Rangers don’t have to worry about him yet, seeing that he is only 20 and not ready to be called up anytime soon.
A majority of the Rangers top prospects are at the higher levels of the system. Acosta deserves to be one of the top prospects.
If you have not watched Maximo Acosta play, keep an eye out for him this coming spring. He has a smooth throwing motion and his range is really good.
