Good teams take care of business against the bad teams. The Texas Rangers have done that so far in 2023.
Pitching has been as good as advertised and when the offense is on, well, you’ve seen it.
Also, the Rangers are 1-0 in games decided by one run. It has only been one game so far.
The Rangers are 5th in team ERA and batting average against in the American League. They are 4th in WHIP and hits allowed.
They have given up the 4th fewest runs and earned runs as well. It is good to see the Rangers in the top five in so many pitching stats. It’s what good teams do.
The offense has not been bad either. They are 4th in OPS, slugging and batting average. The team has the 5th most homers in the AL, the second most RBI and they have struck out the 3rd fewest of all AL teams.
They have also scored the second most runs in the AL.
This team feels different than the last few years obviously. The Rangers are close to the top in many categories in the AL.
With Oakland coming into town for the weekend, they have a chance to gain another sweep. Of course we have to remember that all MLB teams can win games.
The Rangers have built up a decent lead so far in the American League West, but it is only three weeks into a very long season.
Enjoy the early success of the Texas Rangers. Enjoy watching them do what good teams do, beat bad teams.
In all the optimism, don’t forget that the Rangers are one or two injuries away from struggling. They have already lost Corey Seager.
Jacob deGrom was pulled from his last start, and Jon Gray took a 106 mph comebacker off the elbow. Both pitchers appear to be alright.
Good Teams win, and teams lost (my super stat of the week). The Texas Rangers will go thorough a stretch where they lose more than they win. Enjoy the ride.
