Who Will Take Care of Business

The Rangers currently have a 3.5 game lead over the pesky Angels, who just won’t go away! The Angels finish the season with 6 against the A’s, 3 against the Mariners and O’s, 4 against the Blue Jays, and then 3 each against the Yankees and Rangers. So 16 of their last 22 games are against teams with losing records, and 12 are against AL West opponents. The Rangers have 3 against the Rays and Indians, 6 each against the Mariners and Athletics, and 3 against the Angels. That means out of the 21 games left, that 15 of them are against the AL West. So here is what I am guessing: The Rangers and Angels will go .500ish against non division teams. So that leaves it down to who will take care of business against the AL West. I think it will be the Rangers. If Feldman can prove that his first start of the season was not a fluke, Derek can keep pitching like he has been, C.J. can keep it together, and the bull pen can bail them out when need be, the Rangers will be the team to take care of it. The Angels have two guys that can be considered ace’s, but the pitching after that is suspect, especially against the Yankees and the swinging Blue Jays. The Angels have an edge on home games (12 for the Angels compared to 9 for the Rangers) and of course the last series of the season is a big showdown between the two clubs. The magic number sits at 18 right now. If the Rangers can win 18 of the remaining games, than Rangers fans have nothing to worry about. I don’t think they will, but I look forward to watching them try. Lets see if Feldman can wow us all again today and beat the Rays! Happy Labor day everyone, now go enjoy some Ranger Baseball!

  1. Good analysis Ben. I think the last few are going to be fun to watch whichever way it goes, but of course I want it to be Ranger’s all the way. Keep up the great work with your site.
